If there's ever an Octopath Traveler III, I won't be buying it unless I'm sure the developer has handled this issue better. There aren't any difficulty or accessibility options in the game either, so it's not possible to make things any easier that way. The way it's handled now just turns the game into a tedious and unnecessary grindfest, and it makes it really hard for me to find any motivation to continue playing. I get why the developer wants all the main characters to participate in the conclusive battle, but it's stupid beyond belief that they wouldn't add such a basic function as EXP sharing if that was the idea from the start. In other words, unless you go out of your way to spend tons of hours on farming EXP and JP to level them up separately from your main team, they're going to be severely underpowered by the end of the game, and you will inevitably be unable to defeat the final boss because of it. This wouldn't have been an issue if this was like any other normal RPG, where all party members gain EXP and whatnot even if they're not actively participating in battles, but in Octopath Traveler II, they get NOTHING if they're part of your standby team.

Each story has a different theme going for it, so it is unlikely that one finishes the game leaving unsatisfied with all of them. Amazing soundtrack and the character are all likable and unique. The only real difficulty came at the very end of the game. I had to constantly run away from wild battles as I easily over leveled in my playthrough. The difficulty leaves something to desire, though, imho. The gameplay is quite customizable and there are many different ways to integrate a different strategy.
